TEMPORARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY
TEMPORARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY
The City of Hammond water system has experienced a loss in pressure due to the repair of a broken water main. An immediate Boil Advisory will be in effect on October 7, 2022 for customers located in the following area:
- On Crystal St from North Cherry St to Martin Luther King Ave
- On North Holly St from Crystal to the end of the street (1 block)
- On Martin Luther King Ave from Crystal St to East Colorado St, including the Terrace of Hammond
- On Moran from Martin Luther King Ave to Wilbert Dangerfield Dr
- On Hope St from Moran St to the end of the street (1 block)
- On East David Dr from Martin Luther King Ave to the end of the street (1 block)
Due to the loss of pressure, the water produced by our water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality. Therefore, as a precaution, the water system is issuing a TEMPORARY BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately for the specified area. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the water system.
It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:
Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.) Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
Repairs will be made and investigative samples will be collected and brought to the Amite Lab when the water is turned back on. The City of Hammond will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health-Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.
