Hammond Regional Airport Construction Update

Runway 18/36 at Hammond Northshore Regional Airport will reopen for daytime operations at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday 22 November. The runway will close again at 5:30 P.M.

Beginning at 6:00 A.M. on Wednesday, 23 November the runway will open daily from 6:15 A.M. until 5:15 P.M. through Tuesday, 13 December. During this period construction will be ongoing on and adjacent to this runway during the closed hours and runway lighting will not be available. The 11.5 hours of open time every day are designed to optimize the available daylight and most of the twilight. Pilots are urged to exercise caution during the twilight hours as visibility is subject to weather conditions.

Pilots are also urged to check Notices to Airman (NOTAMs) for specific taxiway closures. The continued closure of taxiway E (Echo) due to the ongoing construction will require back-taxiing on runway 18/36 and close coordination with other aircraft, especially between 6:00 and 8:00 A.M. when the Hammond Control Tower will not be open. Tower hours will remain 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. for the duration.

This ends a twenty-two day long Phase I demolition/construction period during which both runways were completely closed to all fixed wing traffic. Phase II, the period of daytime only operations on runway 18/36, is scheduled for 22 days as well. After Phase II 18/36 will open for 24 hour operations while runway 13/31, closed since the Nov 1 project start, will remain closed until the end of the total project in January 2017.

If the Phase II schedule changes, the Hammond Airport Director will provide updates as soon as possible.
