Angelo Monistere, a 45-year veteran of the Hammond Police Department, was promoted in January 2021 to Assistant Chief of Police. He was past Commander of the Patrol Division, and also served as Commander for detectives, narcotics, juvenile, training, records, communication, street crimes, traffic, and corrections. Assistant Chief Monistere is a past recipient of the Hammond Police Officer of the Year Award.
A Hammond native, Monistere is a graduate of Hammond High School. He went on to graduate from the LSU Law Enforcement Institute, where he has received continuous law enforcement training throughout his career. Monistere is also an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, who served from 1972-1975 as a member of the 2nd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division.
